Day 241: Community
The end of the line: CCSA finals. Had you asked me at the beginning of the season whether or not this team was going to make it all the way, I'd have answered no given the new influx of player. However it seems the exact opposite happened, and the good chemistry between the younger and older players were certainly a significant contributing factor in the team's success.
Standing in their way though would be the Beatitudes, the veteran team from a few weeks back that has consistently been finishing in second place the last few years. Standing behind Ekklesia though would be the massive ET community, many of whom came out to support their beloved team (as illustrated in the photo below).
In the interests in speeding this up though, I'll spare the gory details and just go on to say that Ekklesia got pulverized. The team managed to hold their own the first two innings - long enough for the first score update via twitter had them in the lead - but failed to produce any significant results during the mid-game. A late-game surge did occur with Ekklesia managing to string together a couple of runs together, but by then it was too little too late, as the Beatitudes had already built up a considerable lead. Below are a few additional frames from the third-base line, where I camped for most of the game.
If you ever look at most second place teams in the sports world, you'll often be met with an array of disappointed faces and tears. Not the case with Ekklesia. On the contrary, if you showed up to the field right as the game ended and only had the fan reaction to gauge off of who won, you might've thought that Ekklesia had finished on top.
Despite the loss, the Ekklesia fans erupted in a series of loud cheering and chanting that seemed to go on forever. Hugs, waving arms, high-fives. All from a community brought together via their support for one another. The cheering and such eventually also culminated in a makeshift mosh-put near the dugout.
I barely had time to even fire off a team photo. LOS issues were preventing good ol' CLS from working out, so I had one severely underexposed photo to work with of just the team (hurray post processing), before the fans literally charged home plate en masse. Below is the result. Organized chaos, but to be honest I don't think I'd have it any other way.
And yet, after all was said and done. There lay an empty field. Albert Kong and I were the last ones to leave. Another season over, as we left the lights at Wigmore Park one last time for the summer.

Day 219: Dust Clouds
(Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 II @ 170mm, f/4, 1/1600, ISO 200)
It's been a crazy couple of weeks, with the CCSA season winding down and all, so hopefully I'll get around to clearing the backlog.
Some Themelios games were happening on this day at a park that has had a less than favourable reputation during the summer. It's the same park that Ekklesia had one of their games rained out a couple months back, forcing a rescheduled game that would happen the following week.
(Nikon D90, 35mm DX, f/4, 1/2000, ISO 200)
Woke up a little late and consequently arrived mid-way through the first game. Pretty uneventful game, but managed catch both teams during their post-game devotions. Good times.
(Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 II @ ~145mm, f/4, 1/1600, ISO 200)
One thing about this park that I've noticed, aside from the general overall poor quality is it's tendancy to kick up a lot of dust. Doing anything but standing still on the diamond would generate a lot of dust clouds, and even the slightest wind could send such a cloud your way.
(Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 II @ 70mm, f/4, 1/1250, ISO 500)
Second game was also fairly uneventful. Derrick from Nex Gen was present to support his team (The Way). Pretty easy-going day for the most part. Headed to dinner with Themelios afterwards for some good times.
These would be my last Themelios games of the season, as all of their other games would (eventually) fall on days that Ekklesia had games.

Day 206: Foundations
(Nikon D90, 35mm DX, f/5.6, 1/160, ISO 400)
After a few slumpy days of shooting, it was back to good ol' no-fail softball with Themelios was playing a late game on this particular day. Being amongst such an energetic team really helped to re-ignite my passion for photography.
(Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 II @ ~100mm, f/4, 1/2500, ISO 200)
For the most part, the game seemed fairly close, with Themelios fighting tooth and nail every way. Ultimately a well played game by both sides that was (in my opinion) partially spoilt by inconsistent umpiring. That aside, I certainly still enjoyed the game. For the most part though, CCSA games at this point in the season have become more of an occasion to hang out with friends and acquaintances than to watch the sport. After dinner, a few folks from the team plus myself stayed around to loiter in the parking lot outside the restaurant for some good chatting times. Keepin' this one short, so here are a few extra photos from the game.

Day 187: Practice Tuesday
(Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 II @ ~70mm, f/2.8, 1/640, ISO 200)
Practice Tuesday? Yup. Had some extra time, and figured I should turn out to a Themelios practice since I haven't gone in a few weeks. Helming the team is my friend Elijah, pictured below. He, along with a handful of other CCSA veterans like my high school friend Jon T (JT) are leading this new team.
(Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 II @ 200mm, f/2.8, 1/2000, ISO 200)
Not much to talk about for this particular day. Just a typical practice. The usual drills, and my introduction to a majority of the team. Their first games are this weekend. One on Saturday, two on Sunday. Definitely will have more to report then.

Day 135: Balls Out
(Nikon D90, 35mm DX, f/2.8, 1/1600, ISO 200)
More softball! Yum. Hung out with a new team on this particular day: BTBC Themelios, and new team equals new balls (as shown above)! It's helmed by my friend Elijah, whom I met last year. He was on one of the softball teams that I had shot for, on top of being a fellow Ryerson student. This year, he's undertaking a task to start up a new junior team at his church.
(Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 II @ 135mm, f/2.8, 1/2500, ISO 400)
Most of team is apparently relatively new but by the looks of it during the practice, I imagine they'll pull through this season. Heck, they've still got plenty of time to prepare, with the start of the season (for Juniors) still over a month away.
(Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 II @ 70mm, f/2.8, 1/4000, ISO 400)
Didn't take too many photos this time around. Perhaps I was moderately distracted by the fact that my brain was processing fresh outdoor air for the first time in several days, or the fact that I didn't sleep well prior. Eh, as mentioned earlier, plenty of time before the season starts... :~)
(Nikon D90, Sigma 70-200 II @ 78mm, f/2.8, 1/1250, ISO 200)
More to come.
