Day 221: Super Ultimate Mondays

What makes it Super Ultimate Mondays you might ask?  The answer: Quick Dumpers winning. Volleyball!  Okay... I couldn't resist poking fun at that. :~) More after the break.

So John from Ekklesia asked me if I had wanted to shoot some volleyball for one of his teams.  Though usually on Monday evenings, I decided to take him up on his offer since QD was playing at Cherry Beach later in the night anyway.  A ride to Cherry Beach after sealed the deal.

So... this is John's team.  They play Volleyball.  I don't know how much more descriptive I can get since this was sort of a one-off thing.  The game was at the University of Toronto (ick!) Varsity Arena.  Apparently John's team had gotten their new jerseys in, which meant I'd be shooting two yellow teams!  Woot!

Their team name by the way, is "Pew Pew", with a reference to one of the classic arcade games.  You know, the ones where they go "PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW".  What an awesome name.  Pew Pew managed to decisively win their first set, but lose the next two.  Albert Kong made it in time to watch the last few minutes of the third match, as part of a deal he made with John, whereby both would watch each other's repsective games that night.   Off to Cherry Beach!

So, John didn't stick around very long for whatever reason.  I was kind of excited by the prospect of Ultimate.  Shooting for Turn 2 the week prior meant I had to miss the Quick Dumpers game.  As time seems to go a little slower nowadays, it did feel as though it'd been a while since the last time I had shot Ultimate, so I was going in less "bored" than usual.  Below are some photos from the game:

It was a fairly interesting game to watch.  I'd have to give a lot of credit to Alan though, who has only been able to make a a handful of games this season due conflicting work schedule.  His presence is nonetheless significant on the field.  The man seems to have no hesitation to go down and go down hard for any discs that look like they have a chance of being played.  He is pictured below, after diving for a disc in the endzone that appeared to have been knocked out of his reach.

Ultimately (no pun intended), I believe the Quick Dumpers lost (I recall them hitting a dry period during that time), but as usual an entertaining game and some crazy athleticism by both teams.
