Day 123: Platformer

(Nikon D90, 35mm DX, f/2.8, 1/50, ISO 800)

First day today.  Not bad.  The professor seems like a pretty good guy who cracks the occasional joke.  The class is relatively small too, composed largely of more mature and part-time students.  The shot above is a pretty quick snap, across the subway platform of my buddy Justin.  He relies on a different transit service to get home, and so had to head the other way - he bet our extra thirty-second detour to the subway station would cause him to miss his train, but there he was standing on the other side when Andrei and I got to our side of the platform.

The first of two classes per week for the next six weeks, I'm sure we'll have plenty more instances of this.  Perhaps next time Justin will be standing next to another convenient advertisement.  Who knows?  It is possible.
More tomorrow.

Day 122: Nom Nom Nom

(Nikon D90, 35mm DX, f/2, 1/40, ISO 400)

Originally, I had been planning to meet up with a few friends for some board-gaming/catching up, but unfortunately the host had to cancel due to work.  Thus, you the reader instead get more Katelyn!  She is doing well, looking much better than yesterday (she has a bit of a runny nose).  Food wise, well... not bad.  If you look closely you can see where some of the rice has gone; all over the place. ;) We had dinner at my brother's house today, the first time I had ever been to the new house.  In short?  Holy shit, it blows the pants off their old house.

Keepin' it short today... class starts in about 16 hours...

Day 121: Bah-Bah

(Nikon D90, 35mm DX, f/2.8, 1/100, ISO 640)

Okay, so not quite as long as some of what's been previously posted... but it's Katelyn!  I haven't seen her in about a month, so of course the first thing her uncle does is whip out the camera.  She's grown a lot since I last saw her - she pretty much eats everything, she runs around, and she talks a lot more... mostly baby talk.  She doesn't wave, or maybe it was just today... instead she sticks her hand out and says 'bah bah', her version of 'bye bye'.  So cute.

More later today... but not without one final photo of cuteness.

Day 120: Catch-Up

(Nikon D90, 35mm DX, f/2.8, 1/160, ISO 200)

If you haven't guessed already, most of yesterday (and the wee-early morning hours of today) were mostly playing catchup.  Will have more later today.  Hopefully... if I don't wake up at like 4 PM again.

Day 119: The Fine Line

(Nikon D90, 35mm DX, f/8, 1/80, ISO 200)

On Thursday, I went down to pay fees for Spring/Summer classes.  Having opted to not pursue a job (largely because I don't think I have the skills to qualify for anything significant beyond flipping burger patties), I decided on taking a couple extra courses, some with my BTM buddies during the summer.  In previous years, the end of school often signified the beginning of an eight week period in which I pretty much went in my house and never exited.  I used to spend my days gaming, sleeping, and eating.  It was as if I had crossed one line to the next and became a somewhat different (behaviourally) person.

Last year was similar, in that I felt like I had two lives; with two very different groups of friends whom I saw on a regular basis.  There were the school friends, and the many faces from the softball diamonds during CCSA games.  Each group was largely distinct, and bore few similarities with one another.  I was a frustrated student in the wrong program who took comfort in finding a respectable group of people for a majority of the year, and a beginning photographer on the other meeting new people daily and trying to not end up with a softball-special to the face or gonads.  This year, the line looks like it'll be a little bit more blurred; I am going back to school after all - though I'll still be shooting softball and ultimate frisbee, much to my delight.

After I paid my fees, I went to go grab a late lunch (more Quiznos!) and settled in to what turned out to be an empty room; normally this room - labelled as the 'Notebook Room', an open classroom with tables and outlets for those with laptops - is filled packed with students studying for exams, or working on assignments.  That wasn't the case now that exams were over (as of Thursday afternoon).  While I was relieved to be done, I was somewhat saddened that the regular hustle and bustle of school was over for a few months.  Most folks would probably think I was crazy, but school brought along a sense of normality juxtaposed with the unexpected.  I liked it.  It kept me busy, and I felt like I was alive; although in the heat of the moment, I am often sleep deprived and feel like I'm dead.

Summer school, and the outdoor sports season are coming up very soon.  With it I hope there come new opportunities and experiences.  If not well, you know what they say - the grass is always greener on the other side.

Day 118: The Imperial

 Here's to Marketing... or Tequila?
(Nikon D90, 18-55 VR @ 20mm, f/5.6, 1/60, ISO 200, -0.7 EV TTL)

This is going to be a long post, but that's what happens when one is up for a majority of the day.  More after the break.

Day 117: Con-vention

(Nikon D90, 35mm DX, f/4. 1/30, ISO 800)

Apologies on the lateness, been kept busy the last few days by exams and errands.

Tuesday afternoon brought with it the third exam.  History!  Of course, in typical student fashion I procrastinated.  For the most part, it went well - though I have never written a History exam with so few days in it in my life.

Being somewhat of a smaller university space-wise, Ryerson holds some of its exams at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, located further south of campus.  Thankfully, the location is commuter friendly; although I have to walk for a good ten to fifteen minutes from the subway station to get there.  For me personally, I don't like writing my exams there.  It's harder to keep track of your belongings (I personally think it'd be pretty easy to take someone else's bag and walk out with it), and I find it tends to be noisier.  They also assign two students to a table, usually writing different subjects so you might get unlucky and get seated with someone who has a nagging habit or just plain sucks.  Of course, you could also land an friendly and attractive member of the opposite sex to share a brief chat with.  Unfortunately, I have not.

After the exam, I made my way back to school for another overnight session with some of my BTM buddies.  When I arrived, we decided to break for food.  Fine by me, I was hungry at that point anyway.  Now, I was not paid in any way by Quiznos to say this, nor am I a member of their organization, but holy shit - that promotion that they're running with the prime rib sub?  Godsend.  It beats the living crap out of Subway's steak and cheese.  Waaaaaaay out.  I still love Subway, but man... when I am downtown I have pretty much all but converted to Quiznos.  If you haven't had one of those subs, do so now before the promotion ends on May 2.

Upon getting back, we ate and studied right up until midnight for what would be our final exam: Marketing.
